Davao region is the "cacao capital" of the Phillippines, though mostly known for bulk-cacao. It is only since 2015, when Kelly Go and Marc O'campo drafted their plan revive the cacao culture in their country, that farmers had access to proper harvest and post-harvest training and heriloom varieites were protected.
Cacao grows in agroforestry or intercropped with coconut trees. This is a major step forward from monoculture plantation and also creates a protective buffer for remaining forest fragments.
