This cacao is produced on the hills of the Rwenzori mountain range by smallholder farmers. The unique combination of climate, soil and environment result in a chocolaty profile, with a complex flavour sensation of fruits, flowers, spices and roasted notes of coffee and cocoa.
In the unique environment of the Rwenzori mountains, Clemens and Corinne started a project called "Mountains of the Moon TM", to support local farmers in the growing of cacao, coffee, vanilla, etc. Farms are certified organic and fair trade, and quality is careflly controlled in village post-harvest centers.
Farmers receive premium prices for fresh beans, as well as a 10% fair trade premium
Cacao grows under shade trees and is intercropped with food crops and other cash crops like coffee, vanilla, nuts and fruit trees
